Over the last twenty years or so, I have created many arrangements for two hammered dulcimers. It is especially gratifying to produce this recording, collaborating with Mary Lynn Michal who can execute these arrangements so beautifully. Mary Lynn (ML) came to study with me many years ago possessing a background as a classically trained professional French horn player. ML possesses a unique combination of humility, enthusiasm, and a boundless willingness to work to get everything just right. The repertoire includes music from various traditions: Ireland, old-time, Quebec, Scotland, plus three originals. I am so excited to release this new recording, Mary Lynn's first, Out From The Shadows.
“Michal and Kolodner finish each other’s musical sentences... One of the delights of the record is in the pacing of it all, starting with a bang and then retreating to a more contemplative space for a spell before erupting again with joyous energy.” - Dulcimer Player News
